Let's go to the ZOO!!

Today MBB and I went to the zoo! We had wanted to bring our nieces along. So had to bring their parents as well.... but my BIL got the pox! HA! HA! HA! I should not be laughing lah.... So we went ourselves. That was the first time MBB went after 20 years. How deprived! So he was quite excited but of course he tried to hide it.... but could not contain himself after arriving there and saw the Ben&Jerry's.
So after he got his fix of a gorgeous milkshake, we went on our way. We got on the tram and went around the zoo. We saw the animal show. The zoo had changed it and I didn't really enjoy what they had. But the animals were cute. We saw an animal feeding session where visitors were allowed to feed a manatee. I wanted to do that!! but this ang moh lady was taking forever lah!

Then we went around to see the other animals. After that we stopped for lunch. We had lunch at the Forest Lodge. It was a Christmas buffet spread so we had a whale of a time pretending to be having a christmas lunch...heh. But just had to go back to my roots. These were what we had. Yummy!!

Then we went on our rounds... they have this new thing called The Fragile Forest where the animals are so close to you. I loved it. I was a little freaked out hoping that no insect will stick to me. It was so much fun!!

Then we went on our way.... These 2 are my fav picture of the whole trip....

Isn't it just so cute the way they are lined up? The song " I like big butts and I cannot lie..." comes to mind.Heh.

I absolutely love this picture. I took it by myself by the way. But MBB's eyes a bit busy though...

What Flavour Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Are You?

You Are Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies Ice Cream
Not *those* magic brownies!
Hmmm.... I've never tasted this flavour and don't think they have it at the scoop shop..... but hey, Magic Brownies..... Bring it on!!!

The Day MBB Absconded From Work

Well, he didn't exactly abscond lah. He was sick. My poor MBB was sick. Fever, flu, migraine... the works. So kesian. So we spend the day resting.... all of 4 hrs.... then the rest of the afternoon we spent on this...

That's right... we now have Xbox! We got it free while recontracting our SCV's Maxonline 2000. Initially dead against it, yours truly is now hooked!! I'm surprisingly quite good at it. But only I think so lah... heheh.....

So after MBB succeeded in prying the control out of my hands, we went to MIL's place to return some stuff. The visit, as always, managed to send temperatures rising.... but not in a good way, believe me.... sigh.... why does it always have to be like that?

But before MIL's place, we went to Bishan and had us some Mrs Field's.

Do they not look yummy? They were not overly sweet and the icing was still soft even after 5 hours of being in the box. I loved them....

After MIL's we went to see the doc and had dinner... on the way to dinner, MBB got me these....

Aren't they just sooooo cute? Thank you MBB...... I absolutely love them....

Ho... Ho... Ho...

I got me a Christmas present today... Courtesy of Ms Yeo soon to be Mrs Sim-Yeo.... Thanx babe! It is certainly a nice nice gesture....

Speaking of Christmas, I went to Paragon after attending 2 baby functions. Everyone seems to be having babies... Everyone except me that is..... sigh....

Anyway, MBB and I went to Paragon to get yet another gift for another couple friend who is celebrating the birth of their baby. While we were there, we were surrounded by a flurry of people, whom from the nature of the number of bags they are carrying, were doing their Christmas shopping. I thought this is what Christmas means to Singaporeans, a whole lot of shopping and claiming free gift wrap. As I watched these ladies with their Pradas and Guccis and La Pagayo clad kids and obvlivious husbands whose primary job was to whip out their....err.... credit cards and lend their John Hancocks, most had lists that they were busy checking off. Reminds me of a certain someone I know.....

It is sad that Christmas has become just another excuse for most Singaporeans to shop. Let me tell you, if one were to observe just Orchard Road, one would never imagine that Singapore was ever hit by any economic downturn or was just a few months earlier plagued by retrenchment and unemployment. Singaporeans just have to shop..... and as said earlier, Christmas has sadly become another justification.

After being overwhelmed by people, MBB and I seeked refuge at the Delifrance at the basement at Paragon. While munching on my deli potato, I noticed, behind it, was an area where a toy selling area had been set up. Manned by a few British ladies, they had some really interesting toys.... As part of their shop, they had a Santa come in and kids could sit in his lap and tell them what they wanted for Christmas... Knowing how kiasu our local kids are, you'd assume that they would all be clambering all over him right? NOT !!! None of our local kids had wanted to go sit in his lap! Some seemed afraid, some don't even seem to know who this big bellied man in red is.... The ang moh children were all excited and all wanted to sit on his lap. I mean, it was Santa!!! I wanted to sit in his lap, but with my bosom, it would have constituted as a lap dance and I surely would have been led away by our boys in blue....heh....

My point is, why not really tell our kids what Christmas is all about so that they may enjoy the WHOLE experience? Why not really share with our kids what Christmas is all about, the whole story about who St Nick is? Why not teach our kids to give meaningful gifts, not simply the most hip thing on the shelf today? It just saddens me that kids don't get what the whole gifts idea is all about, simply because their parents didn't take time out to explain it to them....

Luckily, I celebrate Hari Raya..... heh...

...........................................

While waiting for MBB to withdraw money, I saw Edmund Chen, munching on an apple. Then he turned around, NODDED his head and SMILED at ME!!!! A full bodied, 100 megawatt smile..... sigh..... for the first time, yours truly was star struck. Sigh..... He is so the very the handsome......

What my Handwriting Say About Me.....?

The results of your analysis say:
You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry.
You are a person who thinks before acting, intelligent and thorough.
You are diplomatic, objective, and live in the present.
You are a talkative person, maybe even a busybody!
You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others

How true is this? You be the judge...

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

The Blissfully Weded Couple
Vivian & Johnson
14th December 2005
He is one of the nicest people I know. He's amazingly SNAGgy. And she's jolly lucky for snagging him. I'm very happy for you guys. May your amazing journey be as wonderful as mine...hehheh....
I attended their matrimonial shindig yesterday. He lost his bachelor's and she gained her master... heheh.... read that somewhere.... quite aptly describes what marriage is all about. The shindig was held at Raffles the Plaza. Fancy schmancy? You bet! The whole ballroom seemed magically transformed, what with the glam evening lights, the very well dressed crowd, the ubiquitous love in the air...... sigh.... I got that feeling again.
The best part of the evening came. Save for the virgin steward in charge of our table, it was fantastic. The courses while being typically Malay, were prepared to such delectable perfection. I wondered why our dinner couldn't have served up such fabulous fare.... I liked the beef dish the best. Yummy!
All in all, it was a nice evening. Thanx for the invite.Broke the monotony of my days of not having o go to work. Not that I'm complaining.
So guys, for posterity, shag happy ok? *wink*

Going GOLD...

It was midnight. MBB and I were at the Goldclass Lounge. It was our first time. We were Goldclass virgins... hehehe.... As we sat down, a lady properly dressed in black and white with a bow to boot, approached us and asked if we were interested in ordering anything from the menu. A scan of the menu set off alarms in my brains.... the prices were exorbitant!! But in our vain attempt to camouflage our Goldclass virginity, I went ahead and ordered.

"Your order will be sent in to you later m'am... the theatre is ready for you... you may enter anytime you want m'am...,"

What on earth am I babbling about you ask?

Last saturday, MBB and I indulged a little.... We decided that after all the fighting we had done earlier in the week, we'd do good to spend some time out together. We went to Border's that evening. I bought Dave Pelzer's trilogy and more Torey Hayden. We were also on the hunt for Nov's issue of the UNITED mag. It is a mystery that the usual mag havens did not have stock of it.

Talking about my fix, I just remembered that I have a considerable number of mags courtesy of my soon-to-be emancipated new mum in confinement friend..... Hmmmm.... when shall i get started on that?

Then we met up with my BIL and his family and had dinner at HabourFront. After that my BIL dropped us off at Great World City. To our Goldclass Lounge. We went to catch Goblet of fire again. That, to begin with is already an indulgence.... but this?

We decided to go GOLDclass!!!! Before going into the theatre, we were ushered into a lounge area where we could sit while waiting for our seats to be ready. There, we could order snacks and drinks. Mind you, they were not your typical popcorn and nachos kind of snack, though those were on the menu too, but they had prawn fritters and jalapeno cheese nibblets and potato wedges. These were served on a glass plate!! We also got cokes and these were served with glass, not cup, but a glass of ice.... and our snacks were served to us. We did not have to carry it ourselves.... Then....

It was like we were in another place. It was sooo ostentatious. But the seats were recliners covered in blue velvet with gold embroidery spelling the words CITIBANK GOLD Class.... Goodness gracious.... Could they possibly be any more gaudy? Each seat even had a blanket! Imagine that.... I felt like I was on a plane..... Of course yours truly quickly whipped out her camera and became shutter happy..... The following is yours truly being completely idiotic.... at the risk of her camera being confiscated....

These pictures are taken as a precautionary measure, just in case I never go Gold again. Seriously, the price was just exorbitant. I mean at $30 a pop? Yupp... that's why the pictures.... All that said, however, it was an experience and it was fun. A form of escapism, you might say. Even my MBB who was vehemently against going Gold enjoyed himself... just look at the picture below..... though one might argue that he looks more constipated than happy.... heheh....

I must say though, the place, the ambience, the comfortable seats, the fantastic service, the yummy jalapeno munchies and not forgetting the blanket, was worth it.... But worthy enough for me to indulge in this again? Hmmm......

Coffee Talk and Hawker Walk..?

MBB and I went to the doc's last night. He needed to get his pain medication. After that headed to the coffee shop nearby to get dinner. While waiting for the spring chicken to be ready, we sat and had teh.

Sensing that MBB had something on his mind, he gets into a funny way when he's trying to talk about something he's super uncomfortable with, I asked what's up? This was what he said...

"Will there ever be a situation where you will be ok with my coming home late?"

Yours truly nearly choked on her teh. I was like... what kind of a question was that??? So I answered...

"Of course... NOT," and pretended to be extremely interested in my cup of teh. I have invariably opened a huge can of worms. Not knowing where this conversation was heading, I went to check on the damn spring chicken.

Let me tell you something about me. With MBB, I don't like to get into an arguement where I know for sure I won't win.... heheheh.... I mean, who likes losing, yes? So while checking on the fowl, I prepared myself for what was to come.

Returning to the table, as the bird was still swimming in bubbling oil, MBB waited till I sat down and continued...

"You do realise that this part of my job will not change? There will always be times where I will be late....,"

So I launched into my counter strike... heheh..... I told him that he surely understands where I was coming from. I would not have been so mad if he had not been late 3 days in a row... and it was not 10 pm late... It was 2 am late!! If not for the fact that it was my hols, I would not have ben so irritated. So I went on and on about how if he needed me to understand his job, he should meet me halfway and not expect me to just accept and take it. I know I was being unreasonable that night and my being that way did not help him but in fact had a negative effect on his doing his work... so I apologised... but that he needed to understand why I reacted as such. I thought MBB was beginning to get my point so I laid off....

The chicken was finally ready and we headed home...I knew that the arguement was far from being over as MBB says there will always be late nights for him.... I know that, but I as far as I'm concerned, if I stop bothering, I stop caring....

..........

Points to ponder

1. Did not realise that the spring chicken took so long to prepare. It lasted as long as my cup of teh.

2. Our arguement took place at a coffee shop??????

3. It is NOT EASY making a marriage work. Things are complicated enough without children. Understanding the requirements of each others job also ensures that endless going for each others' throat don't happen. Sometimes, I feel that it's too much work but not being with MBB would be too heartbreaking.

Sigh....

The Domestic Goddess

I proudly present my delicacy that I slogged over today. Being on holiday, I get this shot of domesticity that gives me the impetus to whip up some culinary delights. So today's special.... Ayam Kicap. Whenever I cook, it always feel so easy, like I've done it a thousand times.... it always makes me feel bad that I don't do it all the time.... But i just have to lie down and let that feeling pass...hhehheh...

But what is making me sad right now is that my MBB will not be coming home anytime soon to enjoy this with me! As it is, yesterday he came back at 1 am. This situation is making my hols so sucky..... Sigh....

Jalan Limau Manis

Last Sunday MBB and I went on our final Raya visiting. For lunch, we went to MBB's boss's house. He and is family live at Stirling Rd, in one of those quaint 2-storey terrace houses near Ikea. I loved it... they had a garden area, a small backyard behind the kitchen and an upstairs where the bedrooms are. It was so cosy.... I also like the fact that while they were very highly educated and earning thousands monthly, they were humble and down-to-earth.... Which is more then some people i know, not very educated, not very rich but act like they live on Donald Trump's paycheck... What rubbish. No snaps taken, busy bitching with the boss's wife, she was a teacher before.... I guess once a teacher, always a teacher lah......

After that we joined Mak and Farah at Jalan Limau Manis. I like the road name. That's where my uncle and his family have shifted. The first and probably the only one in my dad's family to move into a landed property. So of course I a bit jakun lah.... 3 storey leh.... I will never be able to own that kind of property in Singapore..... Not in this lifetime...heheh.... So i checked out the house..... living room on the ground floor, up the stairs to the kitchen which opens up to a spacious backyard where some serious barbeque could get going....., then up another floor to 3 huge bedrooms and yet up another flight of stairs to the humungous master bedroom.... hmmm.... all those steps, no wonder my cousins are so trim....

So being the camera whores that we are, Farah and me took snaps everywhere.... and we roped MBB in as well... so for the day, he was a camera gigolo? ahhhahhahhah......

At the gate...

In the backyard...

At the foyer...

On the staircase...

Fortunately my aunt knows me well and knows also how crazy I am so she was not bothered that we were busy snapping all over the house while she and my mom was catching up...

Cik Zah, thank you for having us. Your mee soto was shiok... your house is great and we had a great time.... next time, we stay longer......

Hasrina Hamis aka Hazel Sanders

That's my oldest friend in the world. I've known her since 1987.... that's right 18 years.... we've been thru a lot of rubbish together..... she and her many many many relationships..... a friend who was stricken with kidney failure who apparently forgot what we had done for her... not so much a friend huh? Anyway, she has passed on so may her sould rest in peace..... my dad's death.... college.... poly..... she eumura..... a lot.....

We are very different people. Having come from very different backgrounds, different upbringing, we ended having different set of values.... but i guess we complimented one another..... I like it that while we don't keep in touch all the time, we can still bitch like old friends.... I was angry, sad, upset when she decided to get married and move away to the US. But she was happy and that was important to me.... She tries very hard to find her own happiness....

But I'm angry at her again.... she came home and didn't visit me..... so sad iam ....

The make-up I should have gotten on my wedding.

Why didn't i look like this at my wedding? Instead, i had a piece of hair that Fiza calls the donut plastered on my forehead. I swore that I won't be one of those people who'd let the Mak Andam do anything silly to them, but.... we shall not dwell on that. The reason I looked quite grand, even if i have to say so myself was that my school had a GALA DINNER... The shindig took place at Conrad Centennial mind you. WOW right? This was a big deal for a small school from Bt Panjang....

Well, it was a big deal because it was commemorating our 10th Anniversary and that our P was leaving... It was quite a celebration for me as I had been in the school even before it had a building.... Anyhow, the theme was Hollywood Glam and everyone was dressed to the nines... well almost everybody.... hehe... I actually went to mod mak andam, Fatimah Mohsin to get made up for the event. My partner in crime was Ms Tia and she looked very pretty.... I thought she looked like Siti Nurhaliza. Before getting make up done, we went to Hajah Maimunah for lunch and I had the lemak ayam...Super Shiok!!!

After the makeover,I felt it was too much. Got the makeup artist to remove the eyeliner... I guess i'm still a simple make up free girl... but i got my 'demure' batty eyelashes.... You can't really see it but I was busy batting my eyelashes all evening.... heheh.. The organisers albeit my SWC got a room for the evening, so we got to change comfortably. Were we not absolutely gorgeous??? Fiza looked like a malu malu bride to be but she should have gotten the makeover with us... Then really look like virgin bride...heheheh..... So nice to dress up and look pretty isn't it? The ambience was great, 6 * after all, the entertainment was good but after the dinner I was still hungry, because the food was in such small portions.

I liked these 3 dishes the best. The third one was prawn balls served with banana mayonnaise. I quite liked the banana mayonnaise...yumm.... but after that the food was not so good.. there was somewhat tasteless steamed fish, bland and rubbery noodles and icky red bean something. But they had this mushroom dish which was to die for, so shiok it was that i consumed it before snapping a picture...*grins*... The rest of the evening was an emotional roller coaster and here I shall let the pictures do the talking....

Babelicious? YEAH BABY YEAH! But the journey home was fun. Ms Tia's husband came to fetch us albeit spy on his wife..... Thanx Mr Zac!! We went in the van and suddenly became a little wacky! We took a lot of snaps....

Wanna see more? Go visit www.tiahuliz.multiply.com We had a ball of a time.... So next year? Cheers!!
